Founded in May 2002, the URI Web Development Group (WDG) provides fee-based Web services for departments, schools and colleges at URI. In addition, it also services other Rhode Island universities and government agencies.

The WDG is made up of both undergraduate and graduate students who have demonstrated high level skills in Web design, development and database applications. The WDG is directed by Dr. Trent Batson, and its technical lead is Lisa Chen. Faculty advisers for the WDG are professors Pat Logan from the College of Environmental and Life Sciences (CELS), Joan Peckham and James Kowalski from Computer Science, and Ron Hutt from Arts and Sciences.

Our goal is to provide on-going internship opportunity and continue to expand the skill level and employability of URI students in Web technologies. We also plan to work with economic development groups in Rhode Island, as well as with corporate and foundation partners to contribute to the economic development of our state
